Sibirische Katze
Geschichte
The Siberian cat is a very old breed of cat that comes from Russia. The earliest record of this breed is from 1000 AD. Slightly more recently they first appeared in cat shows in the 1870s with reference to a show that took place in Madison Square Gardens in 1884. The first photo of Siberian was in 1900 in a book written by Helen Winslow. Before 1980 there is very little record kept about the breed so there is very little information about the breed before then. The 1980s saw the start of records being kept. Kotofei Cat Club wrote the first standard for the breed in Moscow. Two Siberian cats named Mars and Roman were used to base the breed standard on. Mars was a blue lynx point and white and Roman was a brown tabby and white.
In 1990 Elizabeth Terrll imported 3 cats to America. Soon after in 1997 Dana osborn also imported this breed. In 1998 the first Siberian litter was born in America. The International Cat Association accepted as a new breed in 1992 and by 1996 had granted them championship status. The Cat Fanciers Association granted the breed championship status in 2006.
Verhalten
Siberian cats are very agile, but strong and powerful cats. They love to have freedom to dash about. They have a lovely, sweet natured temperament and are very affectionate. They particularly enjoy the company of children making them a great family pet. They are laid back and get on well with other pets. This is also a very intelligent breed and they have been known to be able to open doors and get at anything they want to. They are a quiet breed that prefers to communicate with their owners through quiet trills, chirps, and purrs.
